Today Is Ash Wednesday
You are receiving this issue of the Spire a day early because, today is Ash Wednesday, and because we had some weather last night that shifted schools in the area to online learning. I know our policy is to follow what they do, but even now the sun has come out and the roads are improving. So, we will go ahead with tonight's meal and worship.

A heartfelt thank you to Pastor Brian for coming out and involving the youth group in the burning of last year’s palm branches to prepare for Ash Wednesday. Your guidance and teaching made this tradition even more meaningful for everyone involved.
For those who may not know, the palm branches used on Palm Sunday symbolize the branches laid down to honor Jesus as He entered Jerusalem. After being blessed, these palms are kept and then burned the following year to create the ashes used on Ash Wednesday — a reminder of our mortality and the call to repentance as we enter the Lenten season.
It was a beautiful experience to see the next generation taking part in such an important tradition. Thank you, Pastor Brian, for helping our youth connect faith, history, and community!

During Lent, we’ll be learning the art of listening paired with the art of storytelling. This is an opportunity to develop the spiritual practice of listening deeply to the stories of others as well as the stories we tell ourselves. We’ll also engage in the spiritual practice of sharing our own stories in a safe and confidential setting. Using several resources on listening, we will practice healthy communication skills that we can bring into our lives outside the group!
March 12 - April 16
This 6-week Lenten group is designed as an introduction into a regular contemplative practice. We will explore the history of meditation in the Christian tradition, investigate how to slow down the mental and physical bodies to cultivate self-awareness and well-being, and begin to establish a regular rhythm of a contemplative practice through guided meditations and Centering Prayer. This is an opportunity to learn and experience something new in a community!

Hockey Gathering
The Omaha Lancers vs the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday March 21st. The puck drops at 7:05 PM at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston.
Reserve your tickets by Friday, March 14th. We will try to have tickets available for you to pick up the week of March 16th.

Your gifts may be left in the shopping cart outside the office. Monetary gifts are also helpful. Cash or checks can be left in the offering or brought to the church office. Be sure to designate your check or envelope for Philip's Cupboard. Envelopes can be found at the Opportunities Desk in the Welcome Center.

During January 112 families visited Philip's Cupboard reaching 276 people.
In February 79 families visited impacting 218 individuals.
Note: February weather limited the community reach of Philip's Cupboard.
